The wife of 86-year-old Irving Zisman (Johnny Knoxville), Ellie (Catherine Keener), has passed away. At the funeral, his daughter Kimmie (Georgina Cates) shows up with Irving's 8 year-old grandson, Billy (Jackson Nicoll), and Kimmie pulls Irving out to talk to him. Kimmie explains that she is going back to jail for violating her parole, and orders Irving to take Billy to his father until she's released. Irving reluctantly agrees and they re-enter the funeral parlor. Kimmie begins to steal a pearl necklace from Ellie's casket, but Irving goes to stop her. Their struggle ends up pushing Irving into the casket, knocking Ellie's corpse onto the floor to the horror of everyone in attendance.
Irving takes Billy to a restaurant to meet with a counselor while they contact Billy's father Chuck (Greg Harris) to inform him of the circumstances. Chuck refuses to take Billy as he cannot afford it. Chuck changes his mind when his girlfriend reminds him that he can get child support, so he instructs Irving to drive Billy to his town of Raleigh, North Carolina by Sunday. Before they leave, Irving sells Ellie's belongings and calls two removal men to help take the bed out. Instead, Irving asks them to carry Ellie's body to his car since he felt that she needs to be taken south to be buried properly.
While on the road, Irving and Billy stop at a market where a woman is selling food. He tries to hit on her while Billy goes on a children's ride which is malfunctioned. Irving tests the ride out, but gets shot through the window as the ride springs off its base, startling everybody else. Irving puts Billy into a box and asks two post office workers to send it to North Carolina, but Billy keeps moving and speaking inside, to the workers' shock. Before getting into more trouble, Irving takes Billy back on the road.
Once off the road, Irving leaves Billy in the car as he goes to play Bingo. He drinks the ink from the markers before pulling out a margarita maker and blender. Irving then proceeds to hit on the women there, making them laugh or repulsing them. Meanwhile, Billy walks around town and asks a man to tie his shoe. He tries to coax the man into adopting him.
The two stop in a supermarket when Billy gets hungry again. Irving takes food out of its packaging and makes Billy and himself sandwiches, which is seen by the employees. A woman comes out to chastise Irving for eating without paying and criticize him for influencing Billy. Still, Irving gets Billy to smuggle some items and run from the manager, who yells at Irving even as he flirts with her.
The two stop at a motel for the day. They pull Ellie's corpse out of the trunk since Irving thinks it would be disrespectful to leave it in the car, all while a man watches them in disbelief. Irving then asks the man if he knows where there is a strip club around here so he can seduce a black woman. The man points him out to one and he leaves Billy in the room.
Irving goes into a club during ladies' night which features male dancers. He tells one of the dancers that he plans on waiting until the women are so aroused by the dancers for him to swoop in and make his move. As he talks to a group of women, Irving sees a male dancer and jumps on the dance floor and pulls down his trousers. Everybody runs away while laughing in surprise and disgust. At the same time, Billy leaves the motel room to find Irving. He goes to another strip club and then to an adult book store. The book store employee offers to watch him while they find his grandpa, and Billy tells her that she looks like a stripper, naming her Cinnamon. Irving eventually comes back home before they have to hit the road again.
As they near North Carolina, Irving tries to use Billy as bait to find a woman to hook up with. The women they speak to find Billy adorable, but they all turn Irving down. They drive to a diner where Irving drives into a large penguin statue, arguing with one of the employees about fixing it. In the diner, Billy asks why he has to stay with his dad when he doesn't like him very much. Irving insists that he has to go with him and then he farts. They get into a gassy contest, which ends when Irving pushes too hard and defecates against a wall. They proceed to leave and later play some basketball while Billy asks Irving if he can take him fishing.
On another misadventure, Billy gets hungry yet again and Irving takes him to a church where a wedding reception is taking place. During a group photo, Irving swipes a glass of champagne, causing the tower of glasses to collapse, and he ends up falling on top of the table, spilling the cake on the floor. Billy seizes the opportunity to eat the cake.
The two arrive at Raleigh and meet Chuck at a pub. Chuck is talking to a member of the Guardians of Children, a biker gang who help abused children. Chuck explains that Billy will allow him to get child support just as Irving and Billy walk in the door. Irving asks Chuck to make sure that Billy is taken care of, though he rudely responds to Irving that he will get the job done. Irving bids Billy farewell as one of the gang members watches on. Irving leaves tearfully, and is consulted by the gang member who assures him that Billy will be cared for. Irving drives away and starts to miss Billy and reminisces about their trip. He turns the car around to get Billy back.
Meanwhile, Chuck is showing off his bad parenting by denying Billy any food. Irving calls Billy to him, but Chuck prepares to fight the old man. The GOC members pull the two away from each other and allow Irving to leave with Billy while they hold Chuck off and warn him there will be trouble if he acts threateningly. Irving thanks the bikers for their help, and they drive off, but not before accidentally hitting and tipping over a row of motorcycles.
To celebrate their reunion, Irving and Billy crash a child beauty pageant after spotting an advertisement on their trip. Billy dresses up as a girl and charms most of the judges, though one participant and her mother note how unusual it is for a grand parent to take her. Billy dresses up as a sailor girl to "My Bonnie" plays. It appears cute until he rips off the outfit to reveal himself wearing women's underwear and then put on a risqué dance to "Cherry Pie", while Irving throws bank notes at Billy. Billy's wig falls off and the two run out.
Irving drives up to a bridge where he and Billy throw Ellie's body into the river. After promising Billy time off from school the two go fishing, as Billy wanted.

Reggie the Turkey (Owen Wilson) has always been afraid of Thanksgiving because turkeys have always been on the menu. However, his attempts to warn his farm-based flock constantly fall on deaf ears and has made him an outcast. When the other turkeys finally realize what's going on, they throw Reggie to the wolves in an attempt to save themselves. In a surprise twist of fate, he winds up being named the "pardoned turkey" by the President of the United States (Jimmy Hayward) and is subsequently taken to Camp David. Although initially hesitant, Reggie soon eases into a routine of doing nothing but enjoying pizza delivered to him by the Pizza Dude (Scott Mosier) and watching telenovelas.
About three days before Thanksgiving, Reggie gets bag-kidnapped by Jake (Woody Harrelson), the president and the only member of Turkeys Liberation Front. Jake tells him that the "Great Turkey" told him to find Reggie and take him back to the first Thanksgiving with him to take turkeys off the menu once and for all. Despite interference by federal officials and several attempts by Reggie to trick him back to the surface, Jake manages to commandeer an egg-shaped time machine with an A.I. software named S.T.E.V.E. (George Takei) and takes Reggie with him back to the same day in 1621. Once there, they are immediately attacked and separated by colonial hunters led by Myles Standish (Colm Meaney). Reggie and Jake are quickly rescued by native turkeys led by Chief Broadbeak (Keith David) and his two children Ranger (Jimmy Hayward) and Jenny (Amy Poehler), the latter of whom Reggie is immediately smitten with. Broadbeak explains that the turkeys in the area have been forced underground since the settlers came and that they can't risk fighting back without the settlers taking them.
The next day, Broadbeak has Jake go with Ranger to spy on the settlers with Reggie and Jenny spring all the hunting traps they've set up. Despite initial hostility, Ranger and Jake find out that the settlers have already begun preparations for Thanksgiving as well as where they keep their weapons. Meanwhile, Jenny, who believes Reggie is lying about being from the future, is impressed with his unorthodox way of springing the traps. However, they are soon intercepted by Standish and Reggie is forced to get her in orbit over the planet aboard S.T.E.V.E., validating everything he said in the process. Reggie tries to convince Jenny to go back to the future with him once everything blows over, but she tells him she can't bring herself to leave the flock no matter how much she likes him.
Jake drags Reggie away from Jenny and tells him he has a plan to attack the settlers. However, Reggie has gotten sick of all his unproved stories and threatens to leave. Desperate, Jake tells him that this trip was more about him making up for him not being able to save three turkey eggs while escaping a turkey-fattening facility when he was younger, although still maintaining that the Great Turkey convinced him to go through with this. While still reluctant to believe what he said, Reggie still goes along with the plan. They manage to use gunpowder to destroy the weapons shack, but Jake inadvertently leaves a gunpowder trail back to the tree the turkeys are hiding under. Standish and his men flush the turkeys out from underground, capturing enough for the feast and killing Broadbeak in the ensuing panic. Jenny is sworn in as the new chief and orders the remaining turkeys to prepare an attack on the settlers.
Despite Jake's attempts to get him to stay, a heartbroken Reggie heads back to the present. Once back at Camp David, Reggie is confronted by three future versions of himself. Through the awkward conversation, Reggie discovers from one of them that he was the Great Turkey having used S.T.E.V.E. to throw his voice and appearance. Inspired, Reggie goes back in time to stop the attack erasing Standish from history in the process. Through S.T.E.V.E. and the Pizza Dude (who was also brought back to the First Thanksgiving), Reggie convinces the settlers and the arriving Indians that pizza is a more acceptable food than turkeys, taking them off the Thanksgiving menu entirely.
In the end, Reggie decides to stay with Jenny while Jake takes S.T.E.V.E. in order to look for new adventures. However, Jake returns moments after leaving and implies to Reggie and Jenny that their antics have caused the future to be thrown out of whack.

Late at night in the kingdom of Arendelle, 5-year-old Princess Anna wakes her older sister, 8-year-old Princess Elsa to play. Elsa, possessing abilities to manipulate ice and snow, accidentally strikes Anna with her power. Their parents journey into the wilderness to seek the help of trolls who remove Anna's memories of her sister's powers. The head troll, Grand Pabbie (Ciarán Hinds), informs them that if Elsa had struck Anna's heart, it would have been frozen. In order to protect Elsa from the world, she is ostracized from everyone, including Anna, leaving both sisters distraught and lonely. Their estranged relationship worsens when their parents are killed during a storm at sea.
Three years after the death of their parents, the people of Arendelle prepare for Elsa's (Idina Menzel) coronation ceremony. Among the dignitaries is the Duke of Weselton (Alan Tudyk), a tradesman who wants to exploit Arendelle for profit. Excited that the castle's gates will finally open to the public, Anna (Kristen Bell), expresses her hopes of falling in love with someone. Strolling through the streets, she meets Prince Hans (Santino Fontana) of the Southern Isles, and the pair quickly develop a mutual attraction for each other. Despite Elsa's concerns, the coronation goes off without incident, and the two sisters begin to bond at the afterparty. During the reception, Hans proposes to Anna, who immediately accepts. Elsa, however, refuses to grant her blessing on the marriage, setting off an argument between the sisters, which culminates in Elsa's cryokinetic abilities being exposed to the guests.
Panicking, Elsa runs away for the North Mountain, inadvertently unleashing an eternal winter on the kingdom. Lamenting her failure at keeping her powers contained, Elsa declares herself free and decides not to return, and instead uses her powers to create an ice fortress and a snowman. The following morning, Anna searches for Elsa, determined to return her to Arendelle, end the winter, and mend their relationship. While at Oaken's (Chris Williams) Trading Post, Anna meets ice trader Kristoff (Jonathan Groff) and his reindeer, Sven, and convinces him to guide her to the North Mountain. After an attack from wolves, the pair meet Olaf (Josh Gad), the snowman Elsa created, who leads the group to Elsa's hideaway.
Arriving at her palace, Anna and Elsa are reunited, and the former attempts to persuade her elder sister to return. Elsa rebukes her, however, still harboring fears of hurting Anna. As Anna persists, Elsa becomes agitated and accidentally strikes Anna in the heart with her powers. Elsa, in desperation to get her little sister to leave, creates a giant snow creature that throws them out. After they outrun the snow monster, Kristoff notices that Anna's hair is turning white, and decides to take her back to his adoptive family of trolls. After a mix-up, she collapses and Grand Pabbie reveals that only an act of true love can thaw a frozen heart, or else Anna will die. Kristoff races back to Arendelle to get Anna to Hans, believing true love's kiss will save her.
Meanwhile, Hans, who had gone on a search for Anna, brings Elsa back to the castle, after she was knocked unconscious from an earlier skirmish with Weselton's men. Shackled in a cell for her protection, Hans pleads with her to undo the winter to no avail, as Elsa admits that she is unable to control her powers. Anna is returned to Hans, as she continues to freeze. She begs him to kiss her to break the curse, but Hans refuses, revealing his true plan of marrying Anna to seize control of Arendelle's throne. He leaves Anna to die and goes to kill Elsa, whom he frames for her sister's apparent murder.
Elsa escapes from prison and heads out into the blizzard on the fjord. Olaf comes to Anna's rescue and reveals Kristoff is in love with her. The two then travel out together onto the fjord to find him. Hans cuts Elsa off and tells her Anna is dead because of her actions. In Elsa's despair, the storm immediately stops, giving Kristoff and Anna the chance to reach each other. However Anna, seeing that Hans is about to kill Elsa, throws herself between the two and subsequently freezes solid, blocking the blow. After a few moments of grief from Elsa, Anna begins to thaw, as a result of her choice to sacrifice herself to save her sister, constituting an "act of true love".
Elsa realizes love is the key to controlling her powers and thaws the kingdom while maintaining a personal microclimate for Olaf to prevent him from melting. Hans is sent back to his own kingdom in chains, Elsa cuts off trade with Weselton, and Anna and Kristoff share a kiss. Elsa promises to never close the castle gates again and shares a long-awaited moment of reconciliation with Anna.
